Used Chevy Trucks Are About to Depreciate

The Chevrolet Silverado EV is the main auto premiere of CES 2022. The Electric Silverado EV RST First Edition version was sold out in just 12 minutes, with a $100 deposit required to book the First Edition. Chevrolet has since received more than 110,000 applications for the new product from private customers and US dealerships. General Motors will transfer the plant to Orion Township, Michigan, and by 2025, the company plans to produce about 600,000 electric Silverados.

Such demand for new electric pickups threatens the value of used Chevy trucks. If you have been thinking about selling your old pickup, now is the time, while they are still in good demand and have not lost the market to electric novelties.

Let’s take a closer look at the new electric Silverado to estimate its chances of winning the hearts of the buyers.

The New Silverado EV: What’s the Difference?

The Silverado EV got the name from gasoline and diesel pickups. But from a technical point of view, it has nothing to do with them.

The EV model was built literally from scratch. It is based on Ultium modular architecture, designed exclusively for electric propulsion. It was also used in the revived Hummer, which was sent into mass production in 2021.

Considering how well-developed the US pickup market is, it’s clear that the Silverado EV will be GM’s main driver of sales, as it will be significantly cheaper than the GMC Hummer EV and the future GMC Sierra Denali.

Chevy Silverado EV Exterior

The new Silverado EV is a full-size pickup truck with a very atypical American segment profile with a short nose and forward-facing two-row four-door cab. The front of the electric pickup has an eTrunk, which can easily fit a large suitcase.

The appearance of the novelty is an evolution of the former exterior, without a serious rethinking of the classic lines. However, the car has something to be proud of: after all, the Silverado EV, according to GM, has one of the lowest drag coefficients in the segment.

Electric Silverado Capacity

The base version of the truck is equipped with a 517-horsepower electric unit with a peak torque of 834 Nm. Chevrolet sees its target audience primarily as commercial customers, specializing in transportation and striving to make their business more efficient and greener.

The Silverado work truck will be able to tow objects up to 8,000 pounds, in the future the company plans to bring to the market a modification that can tow up to 20,000 pounds. In addition, the truck owners will have the ability to fold both the rear wall of the cab and the seats in the cabin to place the loads up to 8,8 feet long in the Silverado body.

The model range will also include the off-road Trail Boss version, equipped with a 664-hp power plant with two electric motors. Such a modification of a pickup truck will be able to drive more than 372 miles without recharging and accelerate to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, and its price tag will start from $105,000.

Drivetrain and Equipment

All pickup versions will receive an all-wheel-drive system by default and the most capacious battery of those installed on the Ultium platform. The power reserve for all modifications will be the same and will be about 400 miles. At the same time, the top version of the Silverado’s main competitor, the Ford F-150 pickup truck, can travel up to 300 miles on a single charge. Also, pickups can be equipped with an advanced Super Cruise autopilot system, which allows you to take your hands off the steering wheel.

In addition, the Chevy electric pickup truck will receive a full-steering chassis, adaptive air suspension, a convertible partition between the passenger and the cargo compartment Multi-Flex Midgate and a multi-functional Multi-Flex Tailgate with an electric drive and a folding step.

The characteristics of the new Silverado EV are impressive. But if you are not an electric car fan, you still have a good choice of reliable gasoline and diesel pickups available for sale in the USA.
