How Gaming Laptops Have Improved Over the Past Few Years

by theskfeed

There was a time when gaming on a laptop was a terrible idea due to the performance you could get on a desktop instead. These days, it is not unusual to find someone using their laptop as their main gaming device, with some even going as far as using them to stream their gameplay to huge audiences. Laptops have improved over the past few years, and here are some notable ways they have done so.

Improved Performance

Perhaps the most noticeable improvements in laptops have been in their performance. Some time ago, laptops came with single or dual-core CPUs and weak GPUs that could only play some games and in low to medium settings. Now, we have laptops with more than ten cores and twenty threads. These are blazing-fast laptops that can handle everything from productivity to gaming and computational tasks.

We have also seen vast improvements in laptop GPU tech. We have come a long way from the days of integrated graphics cards, with any RTX gaming laptop you can buy today providing remarkable performance in gaming and productivity.

Thermal Performance

Improved thermal performance in laptops has led to two main things: performance improvements and lighter laptops. The CPU and GPU are the hottest components in any laptop, and they have to be throttled if a laptop’s cooling performance cannot allow them to keep going. Remember that the lifespan of computer components decreases when they are subjected to high temperatures for long periods.

Better thermal performance means they can both be cooled adequately so they can run faster for longer. Better thermal performance has also been caused by using components that perform very well while using little power. Because such components also produce less power, the thermal solutions they are paired with are also smaller, resulting in smaller and lighter laptops.

Displays

Most gamers will remember the days when tilting a laptop even a little meant they could no longer see what was on it. These were also the days when the colors were terrible on the screens, but we could not see it because there was nothing to compare them to.

Now we do in the form of 1080P, 1440P, and even 4K displays that look fantastic and perform excellently. These displays are brighter, have better color accuracy and reproduction, and have amazing contrast.

They are also much faster than the 60Hz monitors that used to be ubiquitous in the past. We now have 480Hz laptop displays providing unprecedented refresh rates, response time, and gaming experiences.

Battery Tech

Batteries have also gotten better in the past few years. You were lucky if you got more than a handful of hours on older laptops. Now, we have laptops that can last days on a single charge, although that time is cut in half when you are gaming on one. That said, it is still massively impressive that you can now game on a laptop for numerous hours without worrying about the battery.

Laptops have changed a lot in recent years, and for the better. Everything from their performance, to their displays, storage, and battery life are much better than they were a few years ago.
